100,000 Metres of Motherhood

Support me as I take on the Gidget 100,000 challenge…

Over the next four weeks, I’m getting active for Gidget House Foundation to raise vital funds for perinatal mental health support and early intervention programs.

I’m running 100,000 metres (on a treadmill) not in perfect conditions or with childcare in place, but in the cracks of the day, while my little ones are asleep or while they’re with me, finding the moments where I can care for them and care for myself at the same time - a technique I learnt with Gidget House Foundation.

I’ve always been well-acquainted with anxiety — a real connoisseur, you might say. I’ve sampled the whole buffet. But Perinatal Anxiety was a standout — bold, chaotic, with a lingering aftertaste - pairs well with a drop of vintage panic, aged in hormonal barrels 🤣🫠

In Australia, 100,000 parents will be affected by perinatal depression and anxiety (PNDA) every year – that’s 1 in 5 mums and 1 in 10 dads.

Please donate to help change a life. Every dollar raised will give vulnerable new parents more access to critical services like Gidget House face-to-face counselling and Start Talking telehealth services.

Together, we can ensure no new parent struggles alone 🫶🏽

My Updates

100,000 Meters of Motherhood - Thank you

Wednesday 2nd Jul
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Not sure if you noticed 😉 but over the past few weeks, I ran 100 kilometres on a mini treadmill at home — with either one or both toddlers in my care. I called it 100,000 Meters of Motherhood, and due to all of your generous donations; together we raised $1,284 for Gidget Foundation.

Every dollar goes directly to helping families impacted by perinatal depression and anxiety (PNDA) and helps to:

• Provide specialised perinatal counselling for families impacted by PNDA – in person, online, or via telehealth
• Equip health professionals with the training they need to support at-risk parents early
• Drive advocacy to prioritise families’ mental health – like expanding access to Medicare-subsidised sessions.

I’m so blown away by the support this challenge received. One of the most unexpected and heartwarming parts; A few mums reached out to say they’ve been inspired to get a walking pad too — to carve out a little time for themselves to move, recharge, and feel strong again in the midst of motherhood 💕

Whether you donated, shared the word, or cheered me on during nap time treadmill sprints — thank you. Your support means more than I can say.

A huge thank you to @gidgetfoundation for the incredible work you do — it’s an honour to support your mission.

100,000 Metres done ✅ Powered by Naps, Noise, and Purpose 💕

Saturday 28th Jun

Here’s the final breakdown of the rest of the runs. Another gratitude update coming soon 💕

🏃‍♀️ 10km (9 June): My first ever 10km run — and honestly, I looked like I’d just been born. Red-faced, damp, slightly shocked by life. Pulled it off while Justin popped Otis down for a nap and Tilda had “quiet time” on my bed (the treadmill lives next to it — very chic).

🏃‍♀️ 10km (10 June): Squeezed in another 10km while Otis napped. I got so hot I had to rig up not one but two pram fans to the treadmill. Then, as soon as I stepped off, Otis decided the best place to finish his nap was directly on top of me. A full-body, inferno-style contact nap 🔥

🏃‍♀️ 11km (12 June): Knocked this one out in the evening while both kids were down for the night. Sweet, sweet silence.

🛌 Had a week-long break from fundraising as an Influenza A storm cloud rolled in and took over my entire body. Would not recommend.

🏃‍♀️ 5km (19 June): Post-bedtime run while the little ones were down for the night — easing back in after the flu fog.

🏃‍♀️ 7km (20 June): Another nighttime run once the kids were tucked in. These after-hours sessions are becoming my secret weapon.

🏃‍♀️ 10km (21 June): Nap time lined up perfectly, so I snuck in a 10km. No interruptions, no drama — just me and the treadmill. A small miracle in motion.

🏃‍♀️ 3km (22 June): We were up at the crack of dawn, so after a pre-sunrise car ride with Otis, I squeezed in a quick run before work while Justin dressed the kids. I had to hit 70km — couldn’t let it sit at 67km. (No idea why this mattered so much, but multiples of 5 apparently soothe my soul 🤷‍♀️).

🏃‍♀️ 5km (22 June): Evening run while Justin handled bedtime. Had the monitor on just in case — and when Otis started crying, I found myself shushing mid-run. The “shush reflex” is real.

🏃‍♀️ 5km (23 June): Ran while the kids played in the lounge and Justin made dinner. Only overheard one, “Tilda, get off him — he will bite you.” A quiet night by our standards.

🏃‍♀️ 7km (24 June): Ran after Otis went down for his nap and Tilda was having quiet time (aka chocolate biscuit time) on my bed. Peak multitasking.

🏃‍♀️ 3km (24 June): Squeezed in a second run that day once Justin got home and set the kids up for dinner. Because obviously, I couldn’t leave the tracker at 87km — had to round it up to 90. 🤷‍♀️🤣

🏃‍♀️ 10km (25 June): Wrapped up the final 10km while the kids were “down for the night” — or at least the start of the night. We all know how that goes 🤭

Over $1000 Raised — you fine, fabulous, fundraising friends 🙌🏽🫶🏽

Sunday 8th Jun

Thanks to your incredible support, we’ve smashed the $1000 fundraising goal for Gidget Foundation — and I’m honestly so touched (and more than a little sweaty). That’s real money going to real parents who need mental health support during one of life’s wildest transitions: having a baby.

But we’re not done yet — I’ve still got 100,000 Metres of Motherhood to run, and I’m hoping to raise even more as I clock up the kms in pockets of time while caring for my two small humans.

Here’s the run-down so far:

🏃‍♀️ 6km (5 June): While the house was finally still and the kids were asleep.

🏃‍♀️ 5km (7 June): While the kids tore up the lounge room and I ran watchfully, refereeing before it turned into a WWE match.

🏃‍♀️ 3km (8 June): Justin was on breakfast duty while I squeezed in a run — until Otis unleashed a full-blown Shakespearean meltdown. I leapt off the treadmill, bracing for tragedy… only to find it was just a standard nappy change. The theatrics are strong with this one.

That’s 14km down, 86 to go. Thank you for donating, sharing, cheering — or just tolerating my running updates. Let’s keep it going 💛
