a new mum's story
Help parents find the support they need this Christmas – and replace fear with hope.

Everyone deserves support for their mental health
Every year, 1 in 5 mums and 1 in 10 dads experience perinatal depression and anxiety (PNDA). Many suffer in silence, not knowing where to turn.
Without support, PNDA can escalate, sometimes leading to hospitalisation, and in the most tragic cases, suicide.
Your gift can change this by connecting new parents to specialist mental health services and reminding them they’re not alone – especially at Christmas.
Jessica's Story
Jessica had never felt so alone
Her first experience of motherhood was filled with fear, trauma, and isolation. Sleepless nights, a crying baby, relationship strain, and overwhelming emotions left her feeling hopeless.
She remembered trying a psychologist back then: "I felt they they didn't understand me, so I stopped the sessions."
When Jessica fell pregnant again, the anxiety came rushing back.
"I was scared of going through the same intense emotions again. I had healed some, but I was still holding onto past trauma."
But this time, Jessica had the right support. With Gidget Foundation Australia's specialist perinatal counselling, she felt validated, understood and finally equipped to face motherhood with confidence.
From the first appointment, I knew I had made the right decision. Gidget Foundation Australia has changed my life. I still have difficult moments, but now I know how to get through them.”

Why support us?
Transform the mental health journey of new parents
Gidget Foundation Australia is the nation’s leading voice for perinatal mental health. Through our evidence-based clinical services and resources, we’ve helped thousands of parents navigate perinatal depression and anxiety (PNDA) and find hope during the early days of parenthood.
We provide specialist mental health care from conception to one year postpartum – supporting expectant, new, and potential parents through online, in-person, and telehealth counselling. Our Gidget Clinicians care for individuals, couples, and parent-infant pairs, including those facing or recovering from depression, anxiety, trauma, or pregnancy and childbirth loss.
At every level – individual, community, and national – we’re expanding access to care, supporting marginalised communities, and strengthening Australia’s perinatal mental health workforce.
Your donation helps ensure that no parent faces mental health challenges alone – and that every family can find hope, care, and connection when they need it most.
Together, we can help parents like Jessica find hope instead of fear.
When a parent is supported, their children can thrive this Christmas too!
Thank you to our community
