On Sunday 15th September I’ll be pounding the pavements of Sydney completing my first marathon - 42.2km’s of pain, sweat, tears and hopefully some joy . After a few false starts due to Covid and injury I’m super excited (and terrified!) to finally tick this off my bucket list!

With your help It also provides an opportunity to raise some $$ for two extremely worthy causes.

Please dig deep ( I will be) and my employer will match any funds that I raise so let’s go big!!

Half of the total money raised will go to The Gidget Foundation.

Gidget Foundation Australia is named after Gidget, the nickname of a young mother from the Northern Beaches, who took her own life while suffering from unrecognised postnatal depression. She hid the suffering from her family and friends. They created the Gidget Foundation, determined that what happened to Gidget would not happen to others.

1 in 5 mums and 1 in 10 dads suffer from post-natal depression and anxiety and I can’t begin to imagine the heartache and grief that family and friends experience when many of these don’t get the support they need.

If the money we raise helps even just 1 person get this support from the Gidget Foundation and know that they’re not alone, it will have been worth it.

The other half of the total money raised will go to The St George Foundation.

The St George Foundation provides small, local charities help to create brighter futures for children and young people. Their grants aim to improve the social and emotional wellbeing of children and young people, and allow them to participate in activities that build resilience, develop new skills and create a sense of belonging. They also aim to uplift the education outcomes of children and young people facing the greatest barriers to reaching their potential, supporting innovative approaches to education access, participation and learning.

It’s crazy to think that over 800,000 children in Australia still live below the poverty line and therefore without organisations like The St George Foundation, our next generation may not get the same opportunities that we have.

Please give generously!

Thanks
