Early in 2025, my wife Daniella & I tragically lost our baby boy (affectionately dubbed Sprout) half way through the pregnancy. It broke our hearts and we were confronted by the complexity of grief, compounded by years of infertility.
Organisations like Gidget Foundation play an important role in supporting the mental health of expectant, new and potential parents, and afforded us the care we needed. However, support services are under pressure and not always readily available. Luckily for us, family and friends were never far away, but not everyone is this fortunate.
That’s why I’m choosing to pay it forward. On October 25th, I’ll be running the 80km Bondi to Manly Ultra to raise funds for the Gidget Foundation, so that families in their most fragile moments know they are not alone.
100,000 Australian parents face perinatal depression and anxiety every year. That’s 1 in 5 mums and 1 in 10 dads; and far too many suffer in silence. Your donation can provide vital mental health support to these new parents. Every dollar helps parents access counselling, telehealth, and critical support services when they need it most.
Your generous donations are humbly appreciated and help make sure no new parent struggles alone.
For us, nine months on, we’ve found peace. But we will always hold our little Sprout forever in our hearts.
